Detailed information

Plastic SCM is licensed on a per user basis and offers the following options:

Cloud Edition License

Cloud Edition is a Version Control for teams who only need a Cloud server (and optional local cloned repos). You can push/pull (or directly check-in) to a cloud server. Cloud Edition includes a Plastic SCM client and the cloud service.

The price is $7/month per active user and includes 5GB of cloud storage. If you exceed the 5GB, you pay for extra storage per team, not per user. The price is $5/month per team for 15GB, $20/month per team for 100GB, and $7/month per team for each additional 50GB bucket. If a user is not active during a month, you are not billed for that user that month.

Enterprise Monthly/Annual Subscription License

An annual/monthly subscription license offers a low risk investment. The subscription license gives you the right to use the product as long as you continue to pay the subscription fee.

The Enterprise Edition subscription license provides full usage of Plastic SCM and covers product maintenance (including the upgrade to major releases) and technical support.

The prices are: $262 per user per year, or $23 per user per month.

Team Edition License (deprecated)

Team Edition was available for teams of up to 15 users who need a central server in their office (or several servers). Team Edition allows you to checkin directly to the central on-premises server; no local server is needed (but you can use one).

Current Team Edition customers will continue to have support and upgrades, and they will be able to add/remove licenses, but no new Team Edition subscriptions will be sold.

The Cloud extension adds cloud functionality to Enterprise Edition. Cloud extension is a Plastic SCM server service which allows you to host your repositories online. You can push/pull (or directly check-in) to a cloud server. You can work with a Plastic SCM managed service plus on-demand cloud storage capacity.

For Team Edition, you pay $9.95 per user/month or $113 per user/year when paying online.

For Cloud Extension, you pay based on the storage capacity ($9.95/month per team for 15GB, $20/month per team for 100GB, and $7/month per team for each additional 50GB bucket).

You can download the Plastic SCM from the download page of our website and obtain an evaluation copy for 30 days for five users. The licenses are governed by the terms of the End User License Agreement .

You can purchase Plastic SCM online through the buy menu option .

For billing purposes, we use Stripe for Enterprise, Cloud extension and Cloud Edition licenses. We accept credit cards (Visa / MasterCard / American Express).

POs are accepted for Enterprise licenses. For international wire transfers or other options; please contact sales indicating the number of users you would need.

Licensing Plastic SCM FAQ

At the bottom of the Cloud Edition page you will find a more detailed explanation: Enterprise Edition lets you have a central server in your office (or several if you wish). Allows you to checkin directly to the central on-premises server, no local server needed (but you can use it if you wish a Distributed Version Control workflow).  You can add Cloud Extension to Enterprise Edition so that you can have a server service on the cloud. You only pay for the storage used by the whole team.

Cloud Edition: you must have a central server on the Cloud. You may check-in directly against your Cloud repos. Like Enterprise Edition, you may setup a local server/repo on your machine(s) (and implement a DVCS workflow, so that you make check-ins against your local repo and then you'd need to make a push/pull action against the central server (Cloud Server). It is the same workflow used in Git-like cloud services.

Users using Plastic Gluon, the artist-oriented workflow, and UI for games or 3D development, (which is included in Cloud Edition and Enterprise Edition), must checkin directly to the cloud server because Plastic Gluon works only in a centralized mode. It is a very simple workflow used in large studios. You may use this for Unity Projects.

How you choose to adopt Plastic SCM will largely depend on whether you need on-premises or cloud server and the size of your team.

  • Need an on-premises server? NO. Recommended option: Cloud Edition YES. Recommended option: Enterprise Edition.

For licensing purposes, we only count the number of active users, regardless of the number of devices they use or the number of servers you wish to install.

For licensing purposes, we only count the number of active users, regardless of the number of devices they use or the number of servers you wish to install.

For read-only users/accounts, such as a general Continuous Integration Engine, which only does updates/reads and not check-in’s/writes: this account does not count as an active user, so it is free to use. A user is considered read-only when they do not perform write operations (for example, check-in).

You can activate and deactivate users anytime you want. Plastic SCM keeps the history of every user: active or deactivated. To access the system, a user needs to be active, and the number of active users cannot exceed the number of licenses you purchased or subscribed.

1 Currently we recommend Jet , our ad-hoc, blazing-fast, repository storage system. It is the storage deployed by default and the one that offers a better performance. Plastic an still work with standard RDBMs that range from SQLite to SQL Server and MySQL. Corporations sometimes require to use their standard system, and that's why Enterprise Edition is the only one with SQL Server and MySQL support.

2 High scalability engine included in Enterprise Edition. Servers that need to support heavy load (millions of requests per day) and high performance requirements (repos in the TB range with hundreds of users) are better served by the high scalability engine included in Enterprise Edition.
