Licensing

Plastic SCM is licensed on a per user/developer basis and offers four commercial license types and two free-to-use license types, as follows:

Team Edition License

Team Edition is available for teams up to 15 users who need a central server in their office (or several servers). Team Edition allows you to check-in directly to the central on-premise server; no local server is needed (but you can use it).

The Cloud Extension adds cloud functionality to Team Edition. Cloud Extension is a Plastic SCM server service which allows you to host your repositories online. You can push/pull (or directly check-in) to a cloud server. You can work with a Plastic SCM managed service plus on-demand cloud storage capacity.

For Team Edition, you pay $9.95 per user/month or $113 per user/year for online payments.

For Cloud Extension, you pay based on the storage capacity ($4.95/month per team for 15 GB, $19.95/month per team for 100 GB, and $7.45/month per team for each 50 GB additional bucket).

Cloud Edition License

Cloud Edition is a Version Control for teams who only need a Cloud server (and optional local cloned repos). You can push/pull (or directly check-in) to a cloud server. Cloud Edition includes a Plastic SCM client and the cloud service.

Price is $6.95/month per active user and includes 5GB of cloud storage. Once you exceed the 5GB, you pay for extra storage per team, not per user. Price is $4.95/month per team for 15 GB, $19.95/month per team for 100 GB, and $7.45/month per team for each 50 GB additional bucket. If a user is not active during a month, you are not billed for that user that month. A minimun of $4.95 is charged every month if there are no users active and storage used is less than 5GB.

Enterprise Perpetual License

A perpetual license gives you the right to use the version you purchase forever. The perpetual license provides full usage of Plastic SCM and covers annual product maintenance (including the upgrade to major releases) and technical support for the first year and while you continue to renew the support and maintenance fee (20% of the perpetual license price) each year.

Price is $595 per user (volume discounts apply above 20 users, and are automatically applied when purchasing online).

Enterprise Annual Subscription License

An annual subscription license offers a low risk investment. The annual subscription license gives you the right to use the product as long as you continue to pay the annual subscription fee.

The annual subscription license provides full usage of Plastic SCM and covers product maintenance (including the upgrade to major releases) and technical support. You may upgrade to Perpetual Licenses at any time.

Price is $279 per user per year.

Personal Edition License

The Personal Edition is free for hobbyists and individuals, and it is granted on a yearly basis.

Community Edition License

The Community Edition is free for OSS projects and non-profit organizations with a size limit of 15 users, and it is granted on a yearly basis.

Downloading Plastic SCM

You can download the Plastic SCM from the download page of our website and obtain an evaluation copy for 30 days for five users. The licenses are governed by the terms of the End User License Agreement.

Licensing Plastic SCM FAQ

Which are the main differences between Plastic SCM Team Edition and Cloud Edition?

At the bottom of the Cloud Edition page you will find a more detailed explanation:
Team Edition lets you have a central server in your office (or several if you wish). Allows you to check-in directly to the central on-premise server, no local server needed (but you can use it if you wish a Distributed Version Control workflow).  You can add Cloud Extension to Team Edition so that you can have a server service on the cloud. You only pay for the storage used by the whole team.

Cloud Edition: you must have a central server on the Cloud. You may check-in directly against your Cloud repos.  Like Team Edition, you may setup a local server/repo on your machine(s) (and implement a DVCS workflow, so that you make check-ins against your local repo and then you'd need to make a push/pull action against the central server (Cloud Server). It is the same workflow used in Git-like cloud services.

Users using Plastic Gluon, the artist-oriented workflow, and UI for games or 3D development, (which is included in Cloud Edition and Team Edition), must check-in directly to the cloud server because Plastic Gluon works only in a centralized mode. It is a very simple workflow used in large studios. You may use this for Unity Projects.

Which licensing option is best?

How you choose to adopt Plastic SCM will largely depend on whether you need on-premise or cloud server and the size of your team.

  • Need an on-premise server?
    NO. Recommended option: Cloud Edition
YES. Recommended option: Team Edition for up to 15 users, and Enteprise Edition above 15.
  • Team size greater than 15?
    NO. Recommended option: Team Edition
YES. Recommended option: Enterprise Perpetual or Subscription Licenses with Full Support

Can the user have multiple devices for Plastic SCM?

For licensing purposes, we only count the number of active users, regardless of the number of devices they use or the number of servers you wish to install.

Do I have to pay for additional servers?

For licensing purposes, we only count the number of active users, regardless of the number of devices they use or the number of servers you wish to install.

Do I have to pay for read-only accounts?

For read-only users/accounts, such as a general Continuous Integration Engine, which only does updates/reads and not check-in’s/writes: this account does not count as an active user, so it is free to use. A user is considered read-only when they do not perform write operations (for example, check-in).

Can I deactivate users and replace them with new ones?

You can activate and deactivate users anytime you want. Plastic SCM keeps the history of every user:  active or deactivated. To access the system, a user needs to be active, and the number of active users cannot exceed the number of licenses you purchased or subscribed.

What happens with the history of changes of deactivated users?

You can activate and deactivate users anytime you want. Plastic SCM keeps the history of every user:  active or deactivated. To access the system, a user needs to be active, and the number of active users cannot exceed the number of licenses you purchased or subscribed.

For perpetual or annual subscriptions: If/when we add a new license, do we have to co-term the maintenance plan at that initial license purchase or just anytime during the next year?

You can purchase anytime during the year; the maintenance starts at the purchase date.

What happens with additional licenses purchased throughout the year, when renewing the maintenance or subscription one year after the initial license purchase?

You will get a prorated maintenance or subscription discount on the licenses purchased thruoghout the year.

What benefits provide the full support service?
